    "A Place to Call Home" (The Molokai Times) - The USDA Rural Development marked June as National Homeownership month, and one young Molokai family has good reason to celebrate. Halley Baimbridge, Kanuimanu Hamakua and their two children are about to move into their beautiful, newly constructed home in Maunaloa. Maui Electric partnered with a USDA-RD grant program and contributed solar water heater systems that could reduce home electric bills by as much as 40 percent. [ Read the Press Release ]


    EPA Works with Builders On WaterSense New Homes Program - (Washington, D.C. - August 1, 2008) As part of its efforts to encourage water efficiency across the country, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that five builders will participate in the Water-Efficient Single-Family New Homes Pilot Program. The builders will construct homes designed to meet the WaterSense program's draft specification for new homes.

    WASTEWATER

    "The Story of the Sewer" (By David Lusk, The Weekly Post) - RAINSVILLE -Much noise has been made, some publicly, some privately-about the Rainsville sewer system allegedly being "sold" to other interests; namely the Section and Dutton Water Boards. The issue seems to come down to the fact that there are those who believe that the City of Rainsville should continue to control sewer facilities for itself-as well as a large chunk of Sand Mountain-while others believe that the water boards could do a better job.     "New wastewater technology at work in Baxter County" (The Baxter Bulliten) -The number of septic systems being installed in Baxter County has long been debated. A $160-million cure peddled by Baxter County Waterworks Facilities Board in 2003 would have tied together existing municipal wastewater treatment systems and constructed new public sewer lines across the county.
